Our Father’s Day meeting at the home of Ray and Ginny
Lackey was great. The June monsoon held off for the
afternoon! How do you like that poetry!
Thank you Ray and Ginny for opening your home and hives to our Club. You went to a lot of trouble to set up canopies in case of rain, arrange chairs, buffet tables, and even provided a wireless microphone so all could hear clearly.
Good thing, too. There was lots of fun to hear, as the Drones shared their wildest, weirdest, funniest, or whatever-est beekeeping stories. Some stories involved, um, beekeepers being stung in X-rated places. Everyone enjoyed the tales.
The Drones donned their skimmer hats adorned with red-white-and-blue ribbon and a little plush bee. The hats were a gift from the Club, to honor them as Dads and American Beekeeping Heroes. Then everyone was treated to giant Hero sandwiches. Thank you, Joan Mahoney, our new Hospitality honcho, for getting goodies and serving us so graciously. And thanks, Ray, for the tours of your apiary.
This month's raffle was very successful, with great prizes. We are seeing more donations of raffle items from members. Thank you! We can always use more items to raffle. So, if you see inexpensive bee-related stuff in a store, or have bee equipment you don't need, please bring it to the next meeting for the raffle.
And if you'd like to speak to our Club, please let me know. We have lots of talent in our Club. Please share it!
Don't forget our next meeting on July 19. Hopefully the weather will be more summer-like by then, and we will welcome a cool air-conditioned meeting room at the Yaphank Farm, thanks to Ernie Schwasnick who arranged for us to meet there. Bill Mondjack, Master Beekeeper and bee photographer from Pennsylvania, will teach us how to get super shots.
As always, if I've been remiss in thanking anyone, please know that the Club is grateful for all you do!
And, I hope you will all come to the EAS meeting August 3-7, 2009 at Holiday Valley Resort, Ellicottville, NY, near Buffalo. EAS is rarely in NY, so we need to represent the NY contingent and be stars! It's really upscale, with a golf course and all kinds of amenities.
Look here for more information about EAS.
There will be lots of social fun, too – a pig roast, a BBQ, and a banquet. I'm very honored to be speaking again at EAS, about healthy living for beekeepers. Looking forward to it!
You all are the best!
