President's Message for October 2008
Friday, October 10, 2008
I am sorry that Jim and I did not get to attend our
last meeting, the Pig Roast. Thank you Miguel
Valentin and thank you Ray Lackey for all your hard
work.
I continue to have trouble with my foot, which has now been re-diagnosed as "Morton's Neuroma". I will have to endure a series of painful injections into the sole of my foot. It's really interfering in my life and I missed seeing you all.
I hope everyone received their Thank You cards for all you did to make our wedding celebration wonderful. We are still in honeymoon mode nevertheless!
The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, has come and gone. But Jim and I were delighted to receive a Jewish honey cake from one of our friends for the holiday. We also gifted and sold lots of honey for the holiday, which I suspect went into lots of honey cakes!
We packaged our honey jars with special blue and white fabric covers (Israel's colors) in clear plastic bags with blue pipe-cleaner ties with Happy New Year tags and that proved to be a good marketing tool. So try it yourself next year.
The Jewish tradition is to dip a slice of apple into honey to eat to assure a sweet New Year; a lovely tradition.
You might like to try making a Jewish honey cake yourself with your bees' honey!
You can find the recipe here.
We welcome new member Eileen Catalano from East Hampton.
Have you read The Secret Life of Bees? The movie opens in theaters October 17!
Here is the website: http://www.foxsearchlight.com/thesecretlifeofbees/
That book alone brought 6 new members to this club when it came out. Lets see what the movie will do!!!
Always remember – YOU make our club the BEST it can BEE!
