This months’ column is dedicated to my dear friend Clifford Still. I never did find your secret spot for beach plum picking. You are missed!
This list was welcomed last year and I like to repeat it for 2008 with some new ones added and some that no longer let people pick.
Pick your own strawberries
(It’s a little late to be picking strawberries, but save this list for next year)
Lewin Farms: Sound Ave, Wading River, 631-929-4327. (Next to Wildwood State Park) 7 days; 9 AM to 5 PM, June-July.
Fritz Lewin Farm: Corner of Sound Ave. and Edwards Ave., Calverton, 631-727-3346. (LIE Exit71N on Edwards Ave. to corner of Sound Ave., left on Sound Ave., ¼ mile). 7 days; 8 AM to 6 PM.
Wickham Fruit Farm: Main Rd., Cutchogue, 631-734-6441, Closed Sundays; 8 AM to 4 PM.
A & H Domaleski: Route 48, Mattituck, 631-734-6886. (Between Elijah’s & alvah’s La.) 7 days; 8 AM to 6 PM. June only.
Fox Hollow Farm: 22 87 Sound Ave., Calverton, 631-727-1786. Thu., Fri., Sat., Sun. 9 AM to 4 PM.
Anderson Farms: Roanoke Ave, Riverhead, 631-727-1129 or 727-2559. 7 days, 9 AM to 6 PM.
John Condzella: Route 25A, Wading River, 631-929-5058. (1 mile east of Wm. Floyd Pkwy. On Rt 25A). 7days; 9 AM to 5 PM.
Hank Kraszewski: 324 Co Rd. 39, Southampton Bypass, Southampton, 631-726-4667. 7 days; 9:30 AM to 6 PM. June only.
Densieski Farms: Lewis Rd, East Quoge, 631-653-5221, 7 days; 10 AM to 5 PM.
Harbes Berry Farm: Sound Ave. Mattituck, 631-655-7996, (Take LIE exit 71, N on Edwards Ave. to corner of Sound Ave. right on Sound Ave., 10 miles on right) 7 days; 9 AM to 5 PM.
Mays Farm: Rote 25A, Wading River, 631-929-6654. 7 days, 9 AM to 6 PM.
Pick your own vegetables:
F & W Schmitt Farms: 26 Pinelawn Rd., Melville, 631-271-3276. (Field off Walt Whitman Rd., LIE 49 S) Tomatoes, plum tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, stringbeans. Weekends; 9 AM to 4 PM.
Krupski Farms: Route 25, Peconic, 631-734-6847. Peas, sugar snap peas. 7 days 9 AM to 6 PM. Approx. June 7th.
Dough Cooper: Breakwater Rd., Mattituck, 631-298-5195. Tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, beans, peppers, eggplants, okra. 7 days, 8 AM to 7 PM.
