We should rename May, "Swarm Month". What an exciting
month of bee swarms it has been.
On Saturday, May 10, I was working in my garden, and suddenly I realiazed that the sound of bees had gotten quite loud and there were more than usual bees flying around. There were LOTS of bees flying around. I didn’t see which hive they came from but as I watched they decided to land in a tree just on the other side of the fence into the sump behind the house.
Thanks to Alan Svoboda and his son Joseph, they were able to climb the ladder needed to capture the swarm for us and we hived it without any problem. However I guess the scout bees had found a better spot, and by evening they had taken off for a new home.

Sunday, which was Mother’s Day we received a phone call from Sean Bonney, that he had captured a swarm. You can see his story and photos here.
Then the following Tuesday, my day off, we received a phone call from the Piping Rock Country Club in Locust Valley that they had a swarm, and could we come and get it? So off we went. A lovely swarm, extremely gentle and very happy in their new home.
Plus all the TV stories in the Bronx and Staten Island and bees everywhere. Hopefully this will be the best BEE year ever!
Does anyone remember seeing the LIBC sign after the meeting in Holtsville? We thought it was put in our car, but somehow we haven’t found it.
