FROM THE EDITORS DESK: September 2008

What a lovely Labor Day I had this year. Joanne and Jim came out and we opened our hives and took our honey and my neighbors appeared over the fence to ask a million questions while thousands of bees buzzed around. They were completely unfazed, while there we where, suited up, and they just hung over the fence, fascinated with the whole process. We then began the extracting of beautiful, sticky honey and need another day to finish the job. Unfortunately I discovered that some of the honey that I had from last year had fermented. That was disappointing, but perhaps storing it in the garage had an effect on the crystallization and subsequent fermentation. Will have to find a better storage area.
Don’t forget to get your honey and wax ready for the honey judging contest in October. Rules for the judging will be in the next newsletter. We hope that all you newbees will join in the fun and show off your harvest and crafts and food items against the aging veterans and give them a run for the ribbons!
