World Famous Beekeeper Passes Away
Friday, January 11, 2008
Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, a world famous
beekeeper, passed away today. Along with his brother
Rex, Sir Edmund began keeping honey bees in his
native New Zealand because it allowed him to do some
mountain climbing during the winter months (which
would be the summer months in our hemisphere).
He was also relatively well-known for being one of the first climbers, along with Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953.
